Dear Fam,
Transfers are today and we are loosing Elder Kim from our house and Elder Weaks will be training. It should be fun to have a new missionary in the house, though I still feel like one. This week I had some cool experiences. - We are teaching a lady that is currently stressing over whether she got in to one of Harvard’s phd programs – apparently they’re only letting 5 people in this year. During our lesson my companion began answering her concerns but I was lost. I couldn’t understand the Korean. However, I felt like I should search the scriptures. So I began searching for what scripture I should share. I read a bunch of scriptures but I couldn’t find the right one. But then as they began to stop talking I flipped to mormon 8 and 9 and read a few verses. They stopped talking and she said in english that she had been afraid of Christianity b/c she felt so many churches are in it for money. Then I told her I had a scripture for her to read. In mormon 8 and 9 it talks all about the time of the book of mormon coming forth being a time of churches seeking for money, even mentioning indulgences. She read it and was amazed. Afterward, I realized that I had been guided to the right scripture despite not knowing what was being talked about. - We have a new investigator who is web programmer and told us that he was coming with lots of questions and warned us that he might make us upset because he was prepared to argue doctrine. However, as we taught he loved the message and was the most attentive and sincerely interested investigator we’ve had so far. We told him to read the intro. of the book of Mormon and he asked us if he could read the whole thing. The intro. wasn’t enough. We asked him if he would be baptized when he has come to know that these things are true and he exclaimed, “Of Course!” He has some issues with the no trinity and is a chain smoker but loved everything else. My companion and I are so happy to have an investigator with a strong desire to know truth. There are people prepared. - we are still teaching the girl who wants to be a celebrity. At our last lesson she had us help her with pronunciation as she sang in English. She was going to the recording studio after our lesson. She has an incredible voice. She wants to be baptized but is afraid her career will make it hard for her to go to church. She still loves coffee but is willing to try and give it up.I hope all is well with you. I love you and wish I had more time to write.
It is a blessing to be a missionary.
