2014 Schill Family Reunion-Monterey, CA

"SCHILL" on Sand Dune
Tennyson and Noah carrying up ice plant to their dad who was up on top of the dune printing "SCHILL" with the ice plant.

Ryan spelling out SCHILL with ice plant.

Tennysen and Noah were great helpers.

Ryan completed his big sign on the side of a huge sand dune that spelled out SCHILL. It would have been visible for family members coming into Monterey to welcome them to the reunion. The sign didn't last long because the next morning some people destroyed it while making their own message on the dune. Since Ry made it at night, we didn't even get a picture.

Embassy Suites Hotel
Ryan got us a good group rate and breakfast was included.
Elevator that took us up to our rooms and down to the lobby.

The delicious custom made omelettes were a favorite for breakfast.

Service Project at Asilomar Conference Center
We planted little pine trees and bushes on this hill by Merrill Hall.

Jamisen enjoyed watering the newly planted trees and bushes.
Our family wants to change this sign to read Schill Hill after planting trees in this location.

We took a tour of the lighthouse.

We enjoyed visiting around the lighthouse area.
The grandchildren had fun being together.

Jeff wasn't too pleased to have Jackson smear his cookie on  his shirt.

Walking to the Witch House

Grandchildren from the shortest to the tallest. It looks like we have a lot the same height. There are 10 grandchildren missing in this photo.

This cute little house in Pebble Beach is near where we used to live n 1982. We called it the Witch House or Gingerbread House. It is now owned by the State and they rent it out to people visiting the area.  Ryan arranged for us to go inside and look around.
The grandchildren loved riding in the back of "Blackie" on the dirt road from the witch house  back to the Indian Village.

Missy loved the grilled brussels sprouts.

Toast to 2015

Dennis the Menace Park

When their parents were children they used to love to come to this park to play.

Ryan arranged free entrance into Pebble Beach with our family reunion sticker.

Family Band (Hobo Band) performing at Fisherman's Wharf.

A passerby asked if she could sing a song with the band. She told Jeff, Hunter and Steve what cords to play.  She did a great job with her powerful voice.

Tennyson playing his harmonica.

Whispering Pines
Ryan steaming the tamales.
Ryan was grateful for Rob's help with dinner.

It was a cold night!

Playing soccer to try to get warm. Monterey was having unusually cold temperature as soon as the sun went down.

Chinese Lanterns

Ryan would light the wick and the lantern would expand like a hot air balloon.

The lantern would rise and we held our breath as it hesitated and we wondered if it would go towards the expensive homes or out to sea.  We sent up about 6 lanterns on Carmel beach and they all went  the right direction.

The lantern would catch the sea breeze and float out over the ocean. We could see them for a long distance!

Tennyson giving Jackson a drink in the hotel room.

   Moss Landing
Rob helping Ryan set up for a good time at Moss Landing. Ry used the big Schill sign to let family member know that they had arrived at the various locations during the reunion.
Ryan served chicken noodle soup for our lunch in the parking lot.

Fun Kayaking

Noah and Brinnan

Ben

Tennyson and Leah

Brian
Steve and Cambelle.

Neat reflection of this gull.
I'm so glad that I had the courage to get into the kayak.  I was afraid I would tip the kayak over and end up in the very cold water. It was so exciting to be able to see the sea otter and her baby close up.

McKay pointing out the sea otter and her baby. They are the dark area in front of the Harbor Seals that looks like a rock.
Harbor Seals sunning themselves.

One of the highlights of our reunion is seeing this mother sea otter and her little baby while we were kayaking at Moss Landing. We watched as she took her baby on to the sand and cleaned his fur and then nudged him back into the water.
Ryan furnished a lunch for us in the parking lot in Moss Landing. Thank goodness for "Blackie" his black truck.
Sarah and Jamisen piling rocks on Hunter's shoes.

Pizza for Dinner at the Ward Building
It was so nice to be able to use the ward building for two of the nights during our week together.

The Britsches had to leave early to drive back to Houston in order to get there by Monday. These next few photos are of the family saying good-bye. The Stewart family already had left to make the long drive back to Texas.

                                                                              Last Breakfast at the Hotel

Playing Pool at the Hotel

A big THANKS goes to Ryan and his family for the effort, time and energy they put forth to make this family reunion so successful. The only thing that would have made the reunion better is to have had the Finches and Virginia Schills with us. We missed you!
