Happy birthday Barbara from Kay
Rock On! A Birthday Wish for My Sister: March 10, 2012
How did we reach this ripe old age
Through all those years of tears and laughter?
Some say Earth-life's just an eye-blink
Compared with that great Heavenly Hereafter.
The age of seventy may sound quite ancient
Unless one thinks of the prophet Moses.
But we are still young in spirit
And loved by everyone who knows us.
For our parents, whose family expanded,
1942 was a banner year!
They joyously welcomed another daughter,
Quite brilliant and darling, I hear.
Growing up with five super siblings,
Taught cooperation not jealousy, the rule,
I loved having you as my sister
At home or in church or in school.
When you married Ron, I was happy;
To your children I became great Aunt Kay!
Each of your nine is a marvel,
Whom you've shared with me all of the way.
Let's hope that the next precious decades
Won't require more aides or stronger glasses
That our bodies and memories will stay as sharp
With each day, month, or year as it passes.
Perhaps we can each have a rocking chair,
Meet with Ellen on the same breezy porch,
Where we'll leisurely rock, reminiscing.
Being out of the sun, we won't scorch.
We'll talk of our lives and our travels,
Of thoughts that are close to our heart.
We'll laugh and and we'll sigh till we're giddy,
Promising, hopefully, never to part.
So Happy Birthday to you dearest Barbara,
Whom I cherish as sister and friend.
With years of compassion and humor,
May our closeness and love never end.
Love,
Kay

Grandma's and Grandpa's Long Road Trip
On December 8, 2011, grandpa finished teaching and on the 10th he attended the school graduation. After going to church on the 11th, grandpa and I started on our long road trip that would take us through 20 states. We were able to spend time with 6 of our children and 20 of our grandchildren. What a wonderful blessing to be with so many of our family members during Grandpa's break from teaching.
Thank you for all the love you gave us, for warmly welcoming us into your home and for the many things you did to make our stay with you so enjoyable. We have many things to be grateful for and our family is on the top of the list.
I have posted a lot of photos of our experiences on this trip so keep scrolling down until you have seen them all!
Utah
We didn't take any photos while we were in Utah. We were only there for two days because we thought we were returning to Orem before we went back to Monterey. But while we were there, Jen fixed us a delicious meal and we attended the Orem High School's Christmas choir concert. It was wonderful to hear the beautiful music and see Aubree and Brinnan singing with the choirs. Brinnan did a terrific job of accompanying on the piano one of the songs. The alumnus were invited up to join the choirs on the last number so Steve took Campbell and went up to join Aubree and Brinnan. Also Jen's parents and sister drove down from Richmond to attend the concert.
