Caesarea (B)

Caesarea is located between Tel Aviv and Haifa on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. This city was built by Herod the Great about 25-13 BC as the port city. The scriptures in Acts mention Caesarea many times: Acts 8:40, 9:30, 12:19, 18:22, 21:8-9 and 23:23.

Ron is in front of the amphitheater.

Exploring Caesarea 's ruins

The intricate stone carving in Caesarea. It is amazing to realize  how old this stone is!

Columns used for the temple came from different areas like Greece, Turkey (Minor Asia) and Egypt and different types of stone too.

Our tour guide, Yehuda, explains that this big stone box is a sarcophagus (coffin in Greek). They are made of granite, marble, limestone, wood or lead and are used among different people including Jews throughout the Greco-Roman world.

Yehuda was a great guide and  knows so much about the history of Israel.

Photo showing how Caesarea used to look.

This photo proves that I was at Caesarea.

One of the most significant finds in Caesarea was a dedication stone erected by Pontius Pilate.
