Old Jaffa (Joffa)Town (A) December 30, 2013

After landing at the Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, we were picked up and taken to a hotel.  In the morning our first adventure was going to the Old Town of Jaffa on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.  Jaffa is the oldest port city in the world.  The city was destroyed many times but was always restored and rebuilt in the same place.

St. Peter's Church in Jaffa  The church was built in 1654 in dedication to Peter.  In the late 18th century, the church was twice destroyed and rebuilt.  The current structure was built between 1888-1894.  Acts 9:36-45

Jaffa oranges (Sharmouti). If you look closely you can see some on this tree. The Jaffa orange are seedless, with a delicious sweet flavor, oval shape, thick peel, easy to peel and good to export.

"The Gate of Faith"  The large statue made out of Galilee stone by sculptor, Daniel Kafri between the years 1973-1975.
It stands at the Peak Park in Old Jaffa.  The gate is the gate of entry to the land of Israel and represents the promise of the land to the Patriarchs:-Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Wow, I can tell this was so much work! How great to have all of this documented and we are so glad you were finally able to make it to the Holy Land.
