Pomegranates and the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nasareth (E)

Most fruit stands have a juicer. You can see it's long handle in the background in front of the man. Ron is enjoying a drink of pomegranate juice.
Fruit stand in Nazareth  You see a lot of pomegranates in Israel. It is a Jewish tradition that teaches that the pomegranate is a symbol of righteousness because it has 613 seeds which corresponds with the 613 metzvot, or commandments, of the Torah. The word pomegranate means, "pomun" (apple) and "granatus" (seeded). This fruit has grown in the Mediterranean region for several thousand years.

Basilica of the Annunciation This church is a modern Catholic church built in 1969 and is over the remains of Byzantine and crusader churches at the site of the annunciation.  Inside the lower level is the most holy place-Mary's cave, the cave in which, according to the Catholic-Christian tradition, Mary was visited by the angel Gabriel and told that she would give birth to Jesus.

This Catholic Church of the Annunciation is one of the biggest, most magnificent one in the Middle East.  The church has two stories which provide space for a lot of people as well as preservation of the holy cave and remains of the previous churches..
